The race Hornog destroys their homeworld during the orbital particle collider experiment. The only survivors, 867 of them, engage in their first interstellar travel in search of planets they could call a new home. One such planet is an ocean world, the other a landscape of mountains … both ruled by the races that are a far stronger force than them.
